RED: The Color of February

We’re always looking for new ways to bring color consciousness to others. If you’ve read my biography, you know that colorful painting was my pathway into my own self and also a portal out of the pain from my son’s suicide many decades ago. The more I learn about color, the more I want to share its vibrancy and its magical healing properties. This photo is of me in my dining room, surrounded by works of art.

I’ve noticed that many of the people who purchase my work are themselves in the healing and helping professions. Many have my art in their homes and offices; others have purchased pieces for their children’s rooms. Consistently, the vibration of color adds so much to a room, or, more specifically, to the humans who spend time in those rooms! We wrote about ‘color as curative’ here.

This year, on our social messaging, we are selecting a color each month. Luckily, we are starting in February and RED is the natural choice! It’s also my favorite color. I loved this history:

Colors were so powerful in traditional cultures that red objects were believed to convey health through their color alone. For example, most red stones such as garnets and rubies were believed to have health-giving and disease-preventing properties. In Rome, children wore red coral as a talisman to protect them from diseases, and in China, for similar reasons, children always wore a piece of red clothing.

Please follow me on Instagram and Pinterest to see the red extravaganza throughout February! The illustration at the top features my painting, Color Burst - Fan Dance.

UPDATE: Here are the Instagram posts from February. Has RED inspired you?
