Orangetober!

Sometimes, a new word is required to communicate a special concept. So this month, in our year of ‘Color as Curative',’ we naturally selected Orange and it was a logical next step to celebrate all things “Orangetober!”

Orange is adjacent to pink in the world of color, but is its fiery cousin, you might say. Since it is also adjacent to red, my favorite color these days, I have many examples of orange-based artwork. I think it looks especially terrific in the kitchen — where the fire lives! But it can also enliven any space, even in (or especially in) small doses.

Those of you who are familiar with my art, know that in addition to being a painter and collage artist, I also love to express my creativity in performance art and costumery. I am busy working on my 2021 Halloween costume and will be sharing it by the end of the month on Instagram.

“Orange is a color of liberation, from the pains of hurtful love and inner insecurities. To channel orange is to truly be free, to be you.” ― Frank Ocean

During this year of color, we’ve often found inspiration on the Bourne Creative blog. Here’s their inspired commentary on orange, which resonates with me:

Orange, the blend of red and yellow, is a mixture of the energy associated with red and the happiness associated with yellow. Orange is associated with meanings of joy, warmth, heat, sunshine, enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, enjoyment, balance, sexuality, freedom, expression, and fascination.

Orange is the color of joy and creativity. Orange promotes a sense of general wellness and emotional energy that should be shared, such as compassion, passion, and warmth. Orange will help a person recover from disappointments, a wounded heart, or a blow to one’s pride.

If you are looking for a spot to fill with these curative vibes of orange, here are a few things ready to purchase in my online gallery shop. These are both small originals, and I have a standing offer for these works: buy 3 and we will gift you a surprise 4th! As we dance up to gift-giving season, these are a great consideration for special friends and business colleagues.

SNAKEY: a 5x7 original painting with resin. This shows my love of the odd color combination of pink and orange.

AUTUMN: a 5x7 original painting with resin. Definitely brings the intensity of a hot autumn sunset!

For something more expansive, I can suggest Golden Twilight. This is one of several pieces included in a juried show in Los Angeles that was centered on trees and nature. I love this series and the tall, elegant aspect mimics the way trees bring the the same elegance into our homes and communities. I love seeing the trees along the shore of Maui on my daily morning walks!
