It has been a few months since you have heard from me, but rest assured, all is well! I had some heath challenges in the beginning of the year, but they are resolving now. Unfortunately, this lead to not being able to participate as planned in the Maui Open Studios Event in February, but alas, it was the right decision.
So, here we are, already in April! Back in December, I decided to make some great little metal prints to have during Maui Open Studios, but that didn’t happen. NO ONE has gotten to enjoy them! Therefore, I am making these 8X12 pieces available at a discounted price with code.

The first, “Mango”, which is featured at Hali'imaile General Store in Makawao, is one of the fruits associated with Hawaii and certainly one of our favorites. We have a huge mango tree in the yard that astounded us when it continued producing all through the winter and currently has so much new fruit and flowers (soon to be fruit) on the tree. Between what we share, mango in smoothies, and mango salsa on fish and dehydrated mango leather and even a mango pie, we use quite a lot of them. Last year I discovered that if I add lime to the mango before I put in the dehydrator, the end result is a sweet, tangy fruit leather that I just can’t get enough of.
The second metal we produced is “Quan Yin and her Protector” representing Quan Yin, the goddess of compassion and empathy and the dragon, a symbol of power, strength, and fierce independence. I have used quite a lot of snakes and dragons in my work representing my hopes for the qualities they represent.
“Life’s Lemons” is a highly designed piece using a color combination I became attracted to in 2019 in my first “Creative Visionary Path” workshop. I love the simplicity (not my usual style) and the different style components. Easily one of my favorites. Many of us have had to experience the lesson in How to take Life’s Lemons and turn them into Lemonade, especially during these last couple years of the altered reality. I know I have, and I have noticed that I seem to have changed drastically.
Finally, “Lost” is also a spontaneous piece, in this new favorite combination of blues, yellow and black. Interestingly, this designed piece reflects my feelings of being “lost” in this crazy world, being home for most of two years and dealing with this altered reality of life in the new, world of masks, viruses, war, and division of friends and family. The original was sold last year.
Unfortunately, early 2022 brought challenges to others as well. The Gottling Gallery in Palm Springs, where I was showing my work, was forced to close. Luckily, there are other places to see my art. The Enchantress Gallery by Bootzie in The Shops at Wailea, here on Maui, is not only thriving, but has expanded to a second gallery in the same shopping center. Hali’imaile General Store, a fabulous Bev Gannon restaurant in Makawao, has a few of my pieces for sale hanging in various places around the restaurant.
In the meantime, I have been studying portrait painting with my sometimes collaborator, Liat Choucroun. She is an incredible portrait artist, and it is the most challenging thing I have learned in my 32 years of being an artist. It is so much fun and I am excited to share these new portraits in my next newsletter!
