March into Green

Continuing our color conversations for 2021, the color for March is Green. Green is growth, it is nature, it is rebirth, and is fresh — all things I’m ready to welcome into my studio and my life.

It’s a lovely color coincidence that my intuition said “pick green for March” as green is the complimentary color to red — our February color, of course! Nature has a way of solving problems, on so many levels. The green grass tickles our toes when we walk barefoot and it creates the shade that invites us to slow down, sit down, maybe read or take a nap. Here in Hawaii, the tree canopy of green leaves is often co-mingled with flowers, which makes for beautiful “litter” on the sidewalks in springtime.

My green image above is from the Medusa sculpture I’m working on, as a companion to the painting I finished last month. (The painting, The Year Medusa Reigned, is in my online gallery store here.) She is covered in green snakes which are then covered in hundreds of tiny Swarovski crystals (among others). Spring is so much about the light returning and these crystals reflect so much!

The other goddess painting I completed recently, Quan Yin and Her Protector, is on view in my gallery, Enchantress Gallery by Bootzie, located in The Shops at Wailea. Since I realize many of you are not yet hopping on a plane to Hawaii, you can watch the video on my Instagram instead! I’m really excited about this diptych, which combines several artistic mediums and has pushed me to grow in new directions. Note the green coincidence! I think I longed for spring as much as for the compassion of Quan Yin.

One of my favorite traits of green is the growth we connect it to. I’ve learned that one of the secrets to a long and happy life is to always be learning, trying new things, dancing even when we wobble like those young new shoots pushing their way above ground! So let’s open the windows, buy some new plants (and art, too!), as we welcome spring into our lives. This year especially, green can bring us out of the dark Covid quarantine times and renew our minds and bodies.

The green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm.

I’m sharing a few of the Instagram images we’ve already posted for March below. We’re having so much fun with green vibes! I hope you’ll connect there and share with your friends.
